CCLI Top 25

CCLI (christian copyright licencing international) is the body to which churches all around Australia (and the world) report the song they use each year. Every 6 months CCLI compiles a list of the 25 most used songs. I thought that every now and again we'd take a look at this list. (Don't go and look it up for yourself, or you'll spoil all of the fun!)

Let's start with a quck survey.

1. Which of the following songs is not in the top 25 (August 2005)?
  • As the deer
  • Brother let me be your servant
  • Majesty
  • Shine Jesus Shine
2. Which of these songs ranks highest (August 2005)?
  • Jesus, what a beautiful name
  • Lord I lift your name on high
  • There is a redeemer
  • How deep the father's love for us

3. What song would you really like to see in the top 25 (Feb 2006)?

  • It's no longer I that livith
  • Angels brought me here
  • Now unto him
  • Voodoo child

Sorry Pete. I wasn't trying to be clever. One of your answers is definately wrong. But 'bad' wouldn't be a bad description of many of the top 25.

For my 5c worth:

1. D
2. B
3. C (the "new" tune that is)

Hmm... that spells nothing at all.. ;-) Oh well, as I learned during Core Skills Test prep all those years ago, if in doubt choose B!

No. 'Now unto him' is not in the top 25. We only count as one vote - even though we sing it 52 weeks a year!

Okay guys. Time for the answers.

1. Which of the following songs is not in the top 25 (August 2005)?

As the deer (#19), Majesty (#23), Shine Jesus Shine (#12). Yes. Lots and lots of churches still do sing these songs. Unfortunately, "Bother let me be your servant" has not been in the top 25 for at least 10 years.

So the answer is B. Well done pete.

2. Which of these songs ranks highest (August 2005)?
The answer is B again. "Lord I lift your name on high" came in at #3, closely followed by "How deep" at #4, Then "There is a redeemer" at #11 and "Jesus, what a beautiful name" at #22. Well done Dave.

3. What song would you really like to see in the top 25 (Feb 2006)?

Well the Feb 2006 stats are out and unfortunately none of the songs listed made it. (interestingly "In Christ Alone" entered the charts this year at #11)
It's possible that 'Angels' and 'voodoo child' have not made it this year, because of the lag time between a song's release and (presbyterian) churches picking it up.

"Now unto him's" absence from the charts possibly needs some explanation. Churches only need to take out CCLI licences if they reproduce the words (or music) for songs. Most churches that sing "now unto him" would sing it directly from the hymn book and therefore would not declare it to CCLI. We would probably be one of the few churches that beam "now unto him" up onto a screen. (what does that say...)

Cath, perhaps you could become the publicity officer for "it's no longer I" and visit churches trying to convince them to sing it.
